The Haxey Gate Inn

Occupying an idyllic position beside an ancient bridge over the River Idle, The Haxey Gate Inn is a well-run, friendly local specialising in good wholesome, reasonably priced food and well-kept beer.  Because of its location beside the river, the inn is popular with anglers; golfers like it too since there’s a golf course just across the bridge. The inn has a large patio and decking area, a spacious conservatory and terrace overlooking the river. Parts of the white-painted building date back to the 16th century and possibly even earlier.

Owners Mark and Lynne Mason have been here since 2007 and have made the inn a popular venue for locals and visitors alike.  It is open all day, every day, with homemade food based on fresh local produce served from noon until 8.00pm.  The menu presents a good choice of main courses that include sizzling steaks, beer battered haddock, homemade steak and Ale pie or various salads all served with delicious homemade chips.  Vegetarians are well catered for and children have their own menu.  A light bite selection is also available until 6pm with smaller portions of popular dishes. Booking is essential for Sunday lunchtime and advisable at other times. Diners can enjoy their refreshments throughout the inn but the front-facing conservatory is popular and seats up to 40. A second homely dining room seating 8 is also available.  Lovers of real ale will not be disappointed with a choice of 4 pumps including Batemans XB.

If you are planning to stay in this pleasant corner of the county, the inn has 8  en-suite bedrooms located in a separate building across from the inn.  All rooms are on ground level and a hearty breakfast is included in the tariff.
